Contaminated Land

The use of geophysical techniques is an invaluable tool in the investigation of contaminated sites and can be used as rapid site-wide reconnaissance to highlight areas of potential contamination, without the exposure of site personnel to the hazards of contaminated sites.

In conjunction with our Ground and Environmental division we can provide an integrated, phased site investigation of contaminated land from the initial Phase 1 desk study and geophysical survey, through to the intrusive investigation, risk assessment and remedial works.

The techniques we commonly deploy in the geophysical survey include:

  • Electromagnetic Mapping
  • Resistivity Imaging
  • Magnetic Gradiometry
  • Ground Penetrating Radar
  • Self Potential Imaging

  • We are able to cover large areas with non-intrusive, mobile data collection ideal for mapping groundwater pollution plumes. Repeat surveys can monitor and validate subsequent remedial works. Here is an example EM map of a buried leachate drain (coloured red).
