Staff Profiles

Dr George Tuckwell

BSc PhD CSci CGeol FGS

George is the Managing Director responsible for geoscience within the RSK Group. George was recently appointed an honorary professor in engineering geophysics at the University of Birmingham.In addition to his managerial duties, George is heavily involved in project work undertaking non-destructive testing (NDT) geophysical site investigation and expert witness projects across the spectrum of applications for ground and structures.
In 2007, George was invited to become a surrogate inspector in the first training cycle for On Site Inspection with CTBTO Preparatory Commission in support of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. In this role team members are tasked to provide the technical evidence and data interpretation relevant to suspected underground nuclear testing. In addition to his experience of UK ground conditions and geophysics, George has worked on projects located in Africa, Europe, the Middle East and the Caucasus region of the former Soviet Union.


Timothy Grossey


Tim is Director and manager of the geophysics team in Hemel, responsible for consultancy, project management, data collection and interpretation for near-surface geophysical site investigations. He has developed rapid data collection and integration techniques of multiple geophysical data sets for geotechnical and geological targets on several commercial projects.
His principal area of expertise is the design and implementation of non-destructive geophysical surveying techniques for geotechnical site investigations. Before joining RSK, Tim was a research student at the University of Leicester where he helped develop rapid data collection techniques for the detection of Fluorite/Barite in the South Pennine Orefield. Tim was also responsible for demonstrations and for supervision of undergraduate students on site and in the classroom both in the UK and abroad.

Stephen Owen


Stephen is a principal geophysical engineer and manager of the geophysics team in Helsby, responsible for project managing and undertaking geophysical investigation projects, on-site surveying and monitoring, interpretation of data and reporting. Stephens more recent work has included significant work in the Middle East where he project managed a topographic survey and soil resistivity survey along a proposed 500km pipeline route for BP. 

Matt Stringfellow

MSci CGeol FGS

Matt is a principal geophysical engineer based in the Hemel office. Matt joined in 2007 following on from three years working as a geologist in an environmental consultancy in the mining and landfill industry.  Matt recently gained chartered geologist status an is responsible for project managing and undertaking geophysical investigation projects for a variety of environmental and engineering problems, on-site surveying, interpretation of data and reporting.


Gerwyn Leigh


Gerwyn heads the SafeGround team in Hemel Hempstead. SafeGround has grown to become one of the UK’s leading underground service investigation specialists. Works include numerous mapping projects across key infrastructure sites in London such as at Heathrow Airport.


Craig Towell 

Craig is senior engineer for our Bristol office covering the south west and south Wales regions. Craig is responsible for planning, management and execution of geophysical investigation and non-destructive testing projects.


Brian Harding

Brian is the topographic and land survey manager at RSK having previously undertaken work as a lead surveyor in the gas and pipeline industry.
